This beauiful vintage French desk was used until recently in a car salesroom in Eastern France. The top drawer is a cash drawer and when closed is locked, when pulled it rings a bell (loud!) as an alarm! The drawer is opened by holding down 5 metal bars underneath the handle. The combination can apparently be changed but we haven't tried this. To remove the drawer there is a metal bar at the back which needs to be flipped to one side. Inside the drawer each compartment has a metal base to protect the wood from metal coins. There is a name plate on the drawer with the alarm manufacturers details - Caisse de securite "Radar".
 
The rest of the desk is in great condition, the top has a vinyl top in faux wood and there are four side drawers and a pull out shelf to the top.
 
A really solid and quirky desk, the alarm can of course be removed if preferred.
